Both CWU co-ord members, Lee Davies and Chris Ingram were very much involved in the working parties that produced the key messages and evidence which was used to determine the content of the guidance to contact centres on slips, trips and falls within the industry.

Taking place in BT's Warrington contact centre Tuesday 8th May, guests included Frances Molloy, Director of H@W; Ruth Hickson, BT Health & Safety Manager, Neil Turner, NWCCP Project Manager; David Ashton, Regional Director HSE; Lee Davies, CWU Liverpool Branch Chair, and Frank Hunsperger, Liverpool Environmental Health Dept.

Press release has been issued to assure as much publicity as possible and to alert contact centres to the document which will be available via both this website and the HSE's.

The guidance is the first of its kind aimed specifically at the contact centre industry, which in the North west, employs over 68,000 people. The benefits of following this guidance will have an impact not only upon accident and subsequent sickness levels, but will also benefit companies in terms of greater productivity and lowering of litigation and compensation costs.

The guidance document was written and designed by Neil Tuner, NWCCP project manager and CWU member Chris Ingram, Oasis Health & Safety.

HSE Regional Director, David Ashton in launching the document said, "Slips, trips and falls on the level are the most common cause of major injuries in workplaces. Contact Centres are a big growth employment area in the North West and we have been working closely on practical guidance to manage risks sensibly."

Frances Molloy, Director Health@Work, who's organisation supports the NWCCP said,
"This guide has been prepared in consultation with the HSE, local authority officers, trade union officials and sector representatives as part of the work undertaken in the Northwest Contact Centres Project. Adopting an inclusive approach helped in developing agreed standards with the industry to produce best practice guidance, which will contribute to reducing workplace ill-health."
