BT Engineer Killed on Roadside

CWU colleagues are mourning the loss of BT engineer David Rennison who was killed in June when he was hit by a van, which mounted the grass verge where he was working.

David, 46, had worked for BT for 19 years and was a member of the Portsmouth, West Sussex and Isle of Wight Branch.

David was a jointer involved in second stage uplift repair, and was working on a notorious stretch of the A272 near Billingshurst, where 75 people have been injured in crashes in the last three years.

Branch secretary Ken Woolley said: “David was known to be a quiet person who always willingly helped people. He always had a smile and was a cheerful, well-respected and popular person, as borne out by the amount of people who attended his funeral.
"

The union’s national health and safety officer Dave Joyce said David died at the scene: “We are working with BT and carrying out a full, thorough investigation. The union's condolences go to his partner and relatives from whom he has been taken before his time."
